I went back to Vox for a moment to try out their new LJ cross-posting feature: something that could theoretically get me to slowly switch over. Two insurmountable problems:
1. It only cross-posts an excerpt.
2. Can't do friends-only posts.
Ha!
Why does Vox play so badly with LJ? They're owned by the same company, for pete's sake!
What's your middle name? Is there a story or history behind it?
James! So other kids would be all "Dyn-o-mite!" when they realized what my first two initials were. Ha ha.
My dad and his dad were both named James. Grampa Jim wanted me to be a Jim too. The middle name was a compromise.
What's your favorite song to sing karaoke-style? If you don't have one, why not?
Oh, vox, you saucy minx. You know just what to say to draw me out.
Britney's always a winner, though I have also had great success with Radiohead's Creep and The Cardigans' Lovefool. Burning Down The House and Copacabana seem to be fallin out of rotation for me, but we've had some good times.
What song or lyrics are stuck in your head at the moment? What album is it from?

When we’re found there still entwined
In a near-eternal kiss
That would impress the scientists

What is your browser's default home page set to?
Submitted by Kelev T. Cat.
I use SessionSaver, so when I open the browser it goes straight to whatever I was looking at last. (This means I need to be extra careful.)
Who's your favorite movie villain?
Bob, the nihilist white trash chimpanzee (voiced by Steven Wright) from Babe: Pig In The City
What books are on your nightstand?
I am rereading Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. I have a bad OCR'd copy loaded on my Treo and I often read it as I commute to and from work on the subway.
If you've read the book, you might agree with my opinion that reading it in such a manner is wonderfully appropriate.
I recently read Mysterious Skin for Book Club. It was excellent. We're going to watch the movie, and I'm dreading a little to see what Gregg Araki does to the story.
You know what's sad? When a book has a really great, meaningful cover:
and then a movie gets made of it, and all future reprints of the book are instead covered with the meaning-light attitude-heavy movie poster:
Boo!
Are there any snacks, food or candy that are no longer made that you desperately miss?
I don't think I've ever eaten a chocodile. I have a phantom nostalgia for them. The very name sound sdelicious. (Chocolate + crocodile? What could be tastier?) But they're only sold on the West coast.
I think I'll be disappointed.
When you were younger, were there any game shows that you religiously watched and wanted to be a contestant on?
Press Your Luck -- I totally forgot about that game until Alisha mentioned it! No Whammies! I never saw the infamous Michael Larson episode, though. That guy's such a bad-ass.
I also recall watching Tic-Tac-Dough and The Joker's Wild, though I do not remember enjoying them. What kind of a name is Wink Martindale?
What magazines do you subscribe to, and why?
Magazines? Like, paper magazines? In this day and age?
Anything I'd otherwise read in a magazine I read online now. It's faster, cheaper, and there's more to read.
Magazines are almost always beholden to their advertisiers. Blogs tend to be more transparent.

I was almost excited. Oh well. It's ok, I don't really need to cross post and if I do the... read more
